How long is too long when it comes to domain length or brand length?
When it comes to tech companies, usually, 13 letters is considered the maximum length that a brand name should be. This is because long brand names are harder to remember.
Data taken from the 20 most popular websites in 2019 shows that their average length was just 6.35 characters. Of those websites that were two word brands, length was 7.6 characters. (As a side note, about 90% of these names were on the .com url extension.)
Of these brands, names that are longer and/or multiple words are usually just hosted on a shorter acronym .com domain name.
The data shows that shorter is better.
