Dot Com is Still the King

When I think of the current state of domain extensions, I am reminded of the Waylon Jennings lyrics:

It don’t matter whose in Austin, Bob Wills is still the King

Or when it comes to domain names, it don’t matter the extension, dot com is still the king.

We have seen over 1500 domain extensions and over 350 million domains in total as of Q1 2019, however, most of the new tlds have flopped.

You tip your hat to the ladies in the rose of San Antone

You tip your hat to some of the other extensions. .net and .org have mindshare and startups like the .io, .co and .ai extensions.

Quite a few startups are using other tlds, but how many them wish they had the .com? Most companies try to purchase the .com version of their domain name as soon as they can. Other extensions come and go but .com is still the king.

You can hear the Grand Ol’ Opry in Nashville Tennessee
Its the home of country music on that we all agree
But when you cross that ol’ Red River hoss,
That just don’t mean a thing
Once you’re down in Texas, Bob Wills is still the King

Country code (cc) tlds have their place and always will, Australia and Ireland for example love the their country code related domain names. But when you cross over into the U.S. that (extension) just don’t mean a thing. Once you’re in the USA dot com is still the king…
